چکیده
Lanthanum-modified lead zirconate titanate ferroelectric ceramics (Pb0.96La0.04)(Zr0.40Ti0.60)0.99O3 were synthesized by the conventional powder processing technique. X-ray diffraction experiments revealed that the samples belong to the tetragonal phase with a 4 b 4 0.4055 nm, c 4 0.4109 nm, and c/a 4 1.013. After being poled, the samples were indented with a 5-kg Vickers indenter, and lateral electric fields of 0.4 Ec, 0.5 Ec, and 0.6 Ec (Ec 4 1100 V/mm) were applied, respectively. Field-emission scanning electron microscopy showed that 90° domain switching appeared near the tip of the indentation crack under a lateral electric field of 0.6 Ec. A mechanism of 90° domain switching near the crack tip under an electric field is discussed.

Modeling of scattering and depolarizing electro-optic devices. I. Characterization of lanthanum-modified lead zirconate titanate.
We describe a new method of modeling electro-optic (EO) devices, such as lanthanum-modified lead zirconate titanate polarization modulators, that resolves two deficiencies of current methods: (i) the inclusion of depolarization effects resulting from scattering and (ii) saturation of the EO response at strong electric-field strengths. Our approach to modeling depolarization is based on describi...

Lanthanum substituted lead zirconate-titanate (PLZT) ceramics of composition 11.1/55/45 have been studied by measuring high electric field properties. Dc bias, dielectric and P-E hysteresis loop measurements have been employed to construct an E (electric field) versus T (temperature) phase diagram. At lower temperatures and small electric fields an antiferroelectric phase with tetragonal symmet...

متن کاملPiezoresponse imaging of lead zirconate titanate microfibers and numerical analysis of its electric field distribution
Piezoresponse imaging technique was transplanted from thin film to probe polarization domains and local properties in single electrospun lead zirconate titanate microfibers. The corresponding electric field distribution was numerically analyzed. The biased conic tip is found to produce a field that peaks on its apex and decreases rapidly toward the bottom metal electrode. A strong field exists ...

High electric fields were delivered to specimens during imaging in the transmission electron microscopy (TEM) chamber to reveal details of electric field-induced phenomena in ferroelectric oxides. These include the polarization switching in nanometer-sized ferroelectric domains and the grain boundary cavitation in a commercial lead zirconate titanate (PZT) polycrystalline ceramic, the domain wa...
